II INFORMATION

Description

DANCEDSQUARED: This installation features a tower equipped with four lenticular animations and four mirrored plates. The mirrors are mounted to the left, and the animations to the right on each of the four panels.

The mirrors are used to pair with the animation in the lenticular prints, which features a dancer performing a modern choreography wearing a costume exploring faded color. A printed step-by-step choreography guide placed on the ground around the tower leads visitors to dance movements that synchronize with the animations of the dancer in the lenticular print.

The mirrors complement the animations in the lenticular prints, which depict a dancer performing modern choreography in a costume that explores fading colors. A printed, step-by-step choreography guide encircles the tower, directing visitors through dance movements that synchronize with the dancer’s movements as seen in the lenticular animations.

The mirrors and prints are strategically positioned so that visitors can see both their reflection and the lenticular animation. This creates a dynamic visual interaction between the movements of the visitors, as reflected in the mirror, and the actions of the dancer, as depicted in the lenticular animation. As visitors move around the tower, the animation illustrates the effects of fading on textiles, with the dancer’s costume morphing between a time-faded version and a vibrant, non-faded version of the textile patterns.

IV CASE STUDY ARTWORKS

Purpose

The DANCESQUARED element is designed to present case studies on Fading Colors in Textiles, featuring design aspects from two garments from the V&A: a Kimono and a Ball Dress. Both items have been affected by time, showing color fading. The artistic approach to depicting this fading involves creating a spectrum of colors that ranges from faded (dull) to not faded (vibrant). These colors are then incorporated into the design of a new garment, demonstrating the impact of time on fabric colors vividly.
